About Adaminaby
Adaminaby is a pretty town nestled into the Snowy Mountains with mountains to explore, lake and rivers to fish and snow to ski. In winter there is snow for skiing and snowplay. The nearby resort of Selwyn Snowfields is a friendly, relaxed family resort, catering for ALL ages.
There are huge areas for cross country skiing. Marked trails are around Selwyn and near Cabramurra. Mounts Jagungal, Tabletop and Tantangarra are popular with ski tourers.
How about some fishing. Adaminaby is surrounded by trout waters. Lake Eucumbene (year round fishing)is 7 minutes to the south. The Murrumbidgee River is the same distance to the north and east. The Eucumbene River and many other rivers and streams are to the west.
Yarrangobilly Caves are about 40 minutes from Adaminaby in the Kosciuszko National Park. It is a stunning area with beautiful forests and river. Several caves are open to the public. The Yarrangobilly thermal pool is 27 degrees year round. Take a picnic.
When you get tired of fishing or skiing you could roam the high plains, ride a horse, ride your mountain bike, look at wild flowers or search for wildlife !
The Big Trout is in Trouble!
Those of you who know our treasured fish that stands at the entrance to the town of Adaminaby in Lions Park will know that the paint is coming off! It is made of fibreglass over a steel frame and stands 11 metres tall, weighing 2 tonnes.
The original project that began in 1969 was a combined effort between the then Adaminaby Lions Club, Andy Lomnici (artist and sculptor), Snowy River Shire Council and the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Authority. The official opening was on 3rd November 1967 when My Tom Lewis, MP the then Minister for Lands introduced the biggest trout in the world (Stewart, 1980).
The Lake Eucumbene Chamber of Commerce is currently working with the Snowy River Shire Council to raise the funds to renovate the areas where the fibreglass needs to be repaired and then paint the surface as it was intended originally.
A detailed plan for the renovation will be published here shortly but in the meantime, ayone interested in assisting with this project by any means, especially by donation can join 'Friends of our Troubled Trout' and earn recognition in the process. you can do this by contacting Jane Reid at pacaj@iinet.net.au where your interest will be greatly appreciated.
